We are happy to be united for a social cause and for the development of society. We are committed to have more development-oriented chapters in our region and organization. We hope that we will achieve our goals in the course of time. I thank to our donors, members and staff by whom we are able to achieve our goal in this year. The Programmes we are able to achieve and expert are health, education, environment, promotion of SHG, Women empowerment and rural development. I hope in future we will develop more for a greater socio economic development of our region.

Our mission is to improve the social, economic and democratic life of the poor and marginalized through various social development efforts like In the field of health, education, environment and rural development.
With in the short period of time we are organized our self to achieve the targets in our fields. By the great support of donors and people contribution we have gone through Education Input Support Programme to stop the school dropouts in our operational area through pre-school education awareness program, PTA meetings( parents teachers association) meeting, women and children development program, supply of study materials to school going children, women self help group strengthening and training programme, vegetable seeds distribution, panchayat raj training and health program like running Rural health center, Medicine distribution, Immunization, Antenatal care, TBA training, General health camps, awareness on HIV/AIDS and malaria control program are being organized in the operational area of some Gajapati and Kandhamal districts in Orissa state in 60 villages.
I place on record our sense of gratitude to our advisor for his excellent and continuous advice and support to all the efforts of READ, all the persons and organizations who supported READ during the year. The General Body and the Governing Body, especially to the Chairman, Vice-Chairman and other trustees have provided creative leadership and have been with us in all ups and downs.

Our organization is purely dedicated for the upliftment of the common masses with special attention to the children, women and needy rural people. Not only our members and volunteers have sincerely worked to carry out different developmental programme through out the year, similarly some persons of high credentials, Govt.-officials, other social volunteer organizations have also come forward to assist us either in form of cash or in kind to implement different activities at different places of Gajapati and Kandhamal Districts of Orissa state. A good number of well wishers have also been associated with our organization who have given their valuable advice, guidance, suggestion and also rendered satisfactory service to shoulder the responsibilities of verifying and maintaining the records of the accounts for smooth financial management.
So, we express sincere thanks to Govt. officials of local area for their assistance and co-operation. We oblige to our members and volunteers for their sincere effort towards implementing different programmes in the field. We acknowledge the job of our auditor and the effort of all our staff and volunteers for keeping our Accounts up to date and making the Annual report in time and for their clean job and clarity express our thanks to all deprived people of the community who have accepted us as friends in solving their felt needs.
Major Activities progress during the year:
Education:
In the READ operational area education and literacy rate is very poor. The tribal people do not have much sense education. They always go to the forest called Bagada for shifting cultivation. This is the prime source of bread and butter to them. They leave their children at home. As a result the children do not learn anything and they are depriving of all kinds of growth like education, health. They are always passive actors in the family and society. We started this program to help the children to create habit of schooling caring nurturing so that the children will develop their inner potential and they will be protected by psychological physical and moral development. We have implementing this program in 7 villages of our operational area. Beside this we organized awareness program on education to the parents.
Study Material Supply
Children were provided school bag, kit, and school uniform, shoes with notebook, pen, and pencil to prevent from school dropout and to create school habit. Children were selected from the families who are below poverty line of operational villages.
Training Programme of SHG Leaders Quarterly Training programme on SHG was organized by READ at Minjaponka village of Daringbadi Block of Kandhamal district for effective management of self help group, loans and investment of loans and record keeping to the leaders of 60 women from different SHG groups was present for the training programme.
Area meeting/ Panchayat raj training
Area meeting or we call regional meetings are regularly conduct in the area to discuss some of the issues of the villages and to give guidelines to solve them. During this meeting mostly discuss on govt. program. Education of the children, livelihood, income generation activities, and health of the people, water and sanitation were discussed during the meetings. The objective of the program is to enable the people to know and to fight for their rights. Our staff also support in various activities with the people. This is an ongoing process of the organization.
Health program
In health activities we conduct various health programs with the collaboration of government. This is also the on going activity of READ. Our staffs regularly keep contact with the people and govt. official for these purposes. We organize and collaborate with Govt. during Immunization, Antenatal checkup and TBA training.
Health awareness camp:
Health awareness camps are organized in every month at the village Minjaponka on different dates. During this months men, women, youths and children participated in the health awareness camps. All together 627 participants attended in the health awareness camps. The Physicians from the nearby hospital at Bamunigam and Dr. Gunakar Rath from Berhampur and READ staff conducted the health camp.
During the camp the doctors discuss with people about common diseases, signs and symptoms of diseases, preventive and curative measures, hygienic practices, cleanliness, water and sanitation, mother and child care, Malaria preventive measures, relevance of Immunization and causes of HIV/AIDS etc. During the day, many people come to the camp to contact the doctors for medical advice and treatment. Medicines support is given regularly from the health center.
Follow up training to Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA):
Follow up training of TBAs are done on every quarter at the newly constructed health center building. Dr. Gunakar Rath gave training to the TBAs. The TBAs shared their previous training lessons and present services which they are rendering to the pregnant women and children. Also they put fore ward their doubts in form of questions. Dr. Rath clarified and explained the use of DDK, referral system and provisions of Govt. health and ECDS department.for children and mother
Antenatal Care (ANC) camp:
ANC camps are organizing regularly in Health Post, Minjapanka during this year in every month. 107 pregnant women attend the camp. The camps are conducted by the Doctors, ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife), Anganwadi Workers and READ Staff. During the camp pregnant women under gone health check up and provided with medicines, such as iron Folic acid, vitamins and received Tetanus Toxide vaccination. Bhagyalata Gnthayat the ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) is the Govt. health worker who is coming every month during the health camps and renders service to the mother and children. Pregnant women were advised to take proper care, in take nutritious food and rest at least 8 to 10 hours per day for the growth of child.
Immunization Camp:
Immunization camps are organized in collaboration with Government ANM, in every month on separate dates i.e. 10th, 11th, & 12th in the project operational area for under 5 children. During the camps mothers from program villages brought their children to the center for Immunization. During this year 879 number of under 5 children received different immunization doses. The health persons are maintaining the Immunization card and growth monitoring chart. Besides this camps Puls Polio programme was done in the operational area and Polio drops are given during schedule time fixed by the Govt. of Orissa state.
Supply of medicine:
The people of different villages are coming continuously to the health post for their health checkups and they are freely supplied with appropriate medicines and support. Some of the people are paying 50% cost of medicine and some are not affording to pay the medicine cost due to poverty.
Use of Vehicle:
During the emergency cases the serious patients are taken to the Medical College, Berhampur for investigation and treatment, which is 150 kilometers distance from the project area. The vehicle service is very much needed to save the life of the serious patients. So far 37 numbers of patients have been benefited by the use of vehicle. The vehicle support has been a great blessing for this unprivileged people.
Impacts and benefits
01. General health camp:
Knowledge on sign and symptoms of different diseases is increased and the people know about malaria prevention and control method and they are able to diagnosis some diseases like malaria, diarrhea and other minor illness. Awareness on HIV/AIDS has increased among the participants
To protect water born diseases the people are now observing surrounding cleanness in seven days interval. In some of the communities, where tube well water is not available, the people are using boiled water for drinking purpose. The people are trying to create healthy environment in their communities.
The people are giving more priority to take care of the pregnant women and children.
People have learned to control and prevention of diarrhea
02. Immunization and ANC camp:
During immunization of both children and pregnant women, the people aware on six killer diseases of under five year children and the time frame of immunization doses. They learned through interesting flex posters on child immunization, ANC and PNC care. The orientation on child and mother care was provided by the resource persons during health camp. The pregnant women are interested to checkup their health by the health resource person Also the people are ready to take their children and pregnant women to immunize in time. This process has been continuing regularly, which is very effective in the people’s life.
03. TBA training:
The knowledge on ANC and PNC care, safe delivery process and child immunization have increased among the rural TBAs. Now they are adopting the modern technique delivery process and they are using disposable delivery kits (DDK), which is provided by READ.
Formation of SHGs:
It is still observed that most of the people in remote tribal areas are depending upon local moneylenders to meet their emergencies at the time of need. But later on, they are facing the hardship of moneylenders and leading very miserable lives. So, it is felt necessary to introduce credit-financing system in our locality. The members of the organization have continued their effort to mobilize the ideal women to be members of SHG and to avail the benefit for better survival. The group leaders are also given necessary feed back for proper maintenance of the records and books of accounts for reflection of clear accounts relating to SHGs in each programme village there are SHGs, which are formulated by the rural women. The volunteers are helping them to run the SHGs in better way.
Women Empowerment Program:
We organize women awareness program in our operational area.. A total number of 300 women including elected word members, PRI representatives and social workers of various Areas were invited in the programme. The attending members were sub-divisional in different groups for better interaction to know details of different self-employment schemes for the purpose of sustainable income. They were explained about the available resources in the area and the techniques required for preparing finished product out of the resources. The members were also assured about financing facilities and Vocational Training to take up different income source of their choice. Further, the women were motivated to posses’ leadership quality and knowledge to tackle the present women atrocities occurring in rural villages.
